An Interesting Case by The National Police: Interesting Case #1, June 30, 1965

Otto Ludwig, Jr., Public Safety Advisor to the United States Operations Mission (USOM) releases the first report of an "interesting case" in publication form. Ã In this report, Major Le Van Dua and his advisor (Ludwig) intercept a hidden shipment of steel and iron on a junk en route from Saigon to Hau Nghia Province. Ã Police reported that the steel could be used to make military weaponry to support the Viet Cong insurgency. Ã The two men on the boat were suspected VC, and were arrested after police the raw materials hidden under sand on the bottom of the boat.

Ralph Hood, Public Safety Division Advisor to the United States Operations Mission (USOM) reports on an August 1964 incident in which the Internal Affairs Division of the National Police infiltrated a smuggling operation between Hong Kong and Saigon. Ã Merchandise recovered from the arrest of twenty-four individuals included money, gold, watches, jade and jewelry.

An Interesting Case by The National Police: Interesting Case #4, January 20, 1966

A report in publication form, submitted by Public Safety Division Maritime Advisor to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Robert Janus. Ã On December 4, 1965, a ship that had arrived at Nha Be, near Saigon, was searched by Vietnamese Customs Officers. Ã Acting on previously obtained information, the officers found radios, American playing cards, and lighter flints hidden in the water ballast tanks. Ã Vietnamese Customs officials believed that the goods were intended for the Viet Cong (VC), and indicated that the VC were known to use flints for detonation of explosive devices.

A report in publication form, submitted by Public Safety Advisor to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Robert Jackson. Ã On November 30, 1965, a man threw a grenade into the Thu Duc market place in Gia Dinh Province killing three (including himself) and wounding seven. Ã An investigation into the incident led to the discovery of a Viet Cong terrorist ring. Ã Forty-one suspects were identified, all belonging to a group called "Cadres of Control of Vietnam". Ã Questioning of the suspects led to the divulgence of the identities of another twenty-four members of two more Viet Cong groups.
